Adore!

I was simply delighted by this book. I wouldn't have tried it if not for the good book buzz around it and I am happy to buzz some more.

It is a lovely little novella that takes on so much that matters: friendship, age differneces, sexual agency, class, inter racial dating, varied bodied but does so with joy in each each person.

The heroine is great and the hero is steadfast and honest. Everyone in this book in grown (well maybe not the heroine's best friend) and reacts in realistic and practical ways.

Weatherspoon does such a good job with the attraction, falling in love and dilemma's of this romance.

I do wish we had a bit more. I like to linger into happily ever after. I hear we shall be seeing more of them in the future. I need Daniella to have her own book. Need.

There's a few things about this that made me cringe because I'm clearly not the audience that this was meant for.

Twenty-four year old Kayla Davis is unemployed and looking for work but she's only interested in a particular field even though she's almost out of options and money. After multiple applications and interviews she's still without a job. Her roommate and best friend, Adler (a girl), suggests that she become a sugar baby - a kept woman - to which Kayla agrees. At a mixer, Kayla meets 49-years-old Michael Bradbury who happens to be the billionaire owner of the company for which Kayla signs up.

I should have stopped at any of these themes - billionaire, new adult/young adult, May-December, sugar Daddy but this was a recommendation and I wanted to give it a fair shot. I'm still trying to figure out the compatibility of these two very different people especially with such a wide age gap; it wasn't explained with anything other than aesthetics - Kayla's butt (no joke) and Michael's handsomeness. There were glimpses of personality that wanted to burst through but they kept getting lost in the snark and sex.

There're a few other things I was curious about and wanted to know more but in the end I was just glad it was over quickly. Unfortunately, for this reader the syntax errors and poorly executed first person POV were not worth the price - $2.99.

Sex positive erotica between an older man and a WoC

SO SWEET was part of a giveaway via Instafreebie a few weeks ago. Even though I'm so over billionaire romances, a few phrases leaped out at me while reading reviews: "sex positive," "woman of color," and "realistic." Words and phrases that, you'll agree, don't often appear in books of this genre. I decided to take a look.

Kayla is living with her flaky roommate, Adler, and both of them are in trouble. Kayla is failing job search after job search, and Adler isn't really looking. Rent is due soon, and both of them are either going to a) become homeless or b) have to live with their parents again unless they can come up with some quick money.

Under the - ill-advised - suggestion of Adler, Kayla decides to make money in the tried-and-true way of new adult novels everywhere: sell sex for money. However, rather than looking for a tattooed rock musician, or an angsty artist who is secretly rich, she looks for a sugar daddy by going to Arrangements.com, which is kind of like the internet dating equivalent of an escort service. She will hook up with an older guy, basically trading sex for payment of student loans, apartment rent, and clothes.

At one of the mixers, Kayla doesn't really feel the scene, and ends up sitting down at a table with a guy who says he isn't feeling the scene either. They talk - and Kayla realizes (SURPRISE!) that this is Michael Bradbury, the founder of Arrangements, as well as several other endeavors. He's no Christian Grey, though. He has the nerdy hippie vibe of a tech-made billionaire, and I appreciated that. I also liked the portrayal of Kayla, and some of the issues she dealt with as a young black woman.

SO SWEET is short but, well, sweet. Clocking in at only about 100 pages, a good portion of the novelette is about sex. It's well-written sex, but doesn't leave much in the way of plot or character development, and while I liked Kayla and Michael, I didn't really get a feel for who they were as people until the very end, when Kayla starts having some friendship problems with Adler, and both Michael and Daniella give her very good advice on how to deal with it (which she follows!).

The sex, as I said, was well written and the vibe of the book is definitely sex positive. It was nice to read about a heroine who was familiar with her body, enjoyed and pursued sex, and masturbated. On the other hand, there were a few scenes that made me raise my eyebrows. At first, when she and Michael are about to engage in anal sex, she proposes training up to it with a plug and lube, which actually made me happy, because yay, realism. But then Michael is like, "No, it's okay, we'll go slow." And Kayla is like, "I had anal sex years ago, so this barely hurts at all, I'm totally feeling it."

Not a traditional design textbook, but it works.

Rather than being a traditional textbook that covers the design of an aircraft from initial mission planning to detail design, Airship Technology is a collection of individually written chapters that cover in total the same breadth of material. This causes the tone to change from chapter to chapter due to the different authors, but each author is clearly an expert on the subject matter in the chapter and all write quite lucidly. Some understanding of fabric design and terminology (such as "gores") is assumed, but if you go into it blind like I did there are more than enough context clues to aid you. This is one of the few textbooks I've actually read cover-to-cover.

NOTE: It does emphasize blimp design rather than zeppelin design; this is because for most applications airships currently do blimps are the better choice. It does have some data on zeppelins, however.

This is a fascinating book about airship technology. It has lots of technical data and practical advice. It shows examples of contemporary airships and it even has a chapter on future developments of airship technology.

Must Have for any Airship Enthusiast or Engineer

The vast majority of books on airship design date back to the first half of the 20th Century. Airship Technology, edited by Gabriel Khoury, is the only recent technical/engineering manual on airship design. Each chapter is written by a recognized expert on that specific area of airship design and operation. The book covers all the bases, including materials, aerostatics, ground handling, piloting, and even solar power.

Airship Technology is a must have for any airship enthusiast or aeronautical engineer. When it came out in 1999, I paid more than US$100 for the book -- worth every penny. As of November 2004, the book sells for US$75 -- an honest bargain. Make sure to add "Airship Technology" to your library!

Section 6, ethical aspects of research in this field.

Dr. Wim Crusio is a Research Director with the French National Centre for Scientific Research (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, CNRS) and adjunct director of the Institut de Neurosciences Cognitives et Intégratives d'Aquitaine at the University of Bordeaux. Prior to this, he held positions as Professor of Psychiatry in the Brudnick Neuropsychiatric Research Institute at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and as senior researcher at the Universities of Heidelberg (Germany) and Paris V (France). He was one of the founders of the International Behavioural and Neural Genetics Society (IBANGS), founding editor-in-chief of Genes, Brain and Behavior (G2B), and associate editor or member of the editorial board of over a dozen scientific journals, including The Behavioral and Brain Sciences. He regularly serves as reviewer, both for scientific journals and for granting agencies, including the NIH, NSERC, European Union, and others. He is a recipient of the IBANGS Distinguished Service Award.

This book is a must have for everyone interested in behavioral and neural genetics. It's a treasure trove of information, that you will be hard pressed to find in one place together elsewhere. It's 4 years old by now, but far from out of date. I particularly liked the chapters dealing with behavioral testing, which will remain pertinent for years to come. Recommended for students and experienced researchers alike.

Not at all what I thought it would be. Most of the information would apply to the purchase of any used car. Was hoping for a detailed guide to the 944 Turbo. Won't be buying any more "Essential Guides".
