Seriously, I'm skating the edge of completely mental at this point....oh, but what a way to go!!

I'm not gonna lie, after the execution of Potter at the end of 'Dead Water' I was more than a little anxious going into this, there is only so much my poor little shriveled heart can take. This book starts off prior to that very public, very heartbreaking turn of events. Being back in Potter's head after mourning his loss was thrilling, hilarious & devastating all at the same time. I'm admittedly a little emotionally strung out, so my review may be a but jumpy-sorry. I was surprised with how much I enjoyed Potter and Jack Seth's interactions with each other. It was very reminiscent of Murphy, but much more violent Lol

With my eyes fixed on Potter, I headed straight for him. Curling my bony fingers into a fist, I punched him squarely in the face. There was a cracking sound as my fist crunched into the flat of his nose and he shot back down the corridor, landing on the floor.
"What the f*** was that for?"
"It made me feel better"
"No wonder my f****** nose looks the way it does. What, with Murphy's driving and people queuing up to take pot-shots at me the whole f****** time..."
"Maybe you shouldn't be such a prick, and perhaps people wouldn't feel the need to slap you so much."
"Who are you calling a prick...?"

This book reminded me a little of Harry Potter & the prisoner of Azkaban (think Hermione's time-turner, that's all I'm saying). Lots of action and plenty of mystery but most of all were the chills I've come to expect. The scariest part of these books is the huge amount of unknowns, especially with the characters. You really can't trust anyone or anything, as soon as you do it bites you in the arse and that is what keeps me in suspense the most. As soon as you think you have something figured out, you're proved wrong in the worst possible way. We also get to venture back into Jack Seth's head here and that whole experience caught me off-guard. Besides finding him surprisingly quite funny at times, disturbing at others, it becomes quite clear something has changed with him since being holed up with Kiera and re-living his story. He was trying to break her by revealing their true relationship and the secrets of her past, but I think maybe she got to him instead.

'Who was I trying to kid? I'd forgotten how to be good a whole lifetime ago. Being good didn't come easy to me. I struggled with that.'

With so many surprising twists this series will do your head in, this installment was no exception. I think I actually tried to reach into my Kindle at one point to unmask the damn photographer myself - I NEEDED TO KNOW WHO IT WAS!! And again with the friggin cliffhanger - you're gutting me O'Rourke!! I'm desperate for the next book but dreading it too because I absolutely do not want this series to end, I cannot say good-bye, we've been through sooo much with these people, can you see my struggles? Are they clear enough?? See....MENTAL! I cannot say this enough -if you haven't started this series yet, why the hell not?!?? Stop reading this review, go get 'Vampire Shift' and get started on this incredible journey. You WILL NOT be disappointed.

Now I have to be honest, at first I didn't feel excited about this because I feel like is just "killing time" instead of sticking with the essentials and working on the ending. But as DEAD PUSH unfold, I realize why this novel is important. Potter and Seth's objective was to find the Photographer and since they failed to do that there's no real resolution here. They did manage to discover a lot of things, especially with regards to those blasted Elders, but aside from that, DEAD PUSH was really about character self-checks for both Potter and Seth. We can expect Potter to make amends for Kiera, Seth on the other had is a wild card. Who knows what he's going to do next.

DEAD PUSH may have veered off a little bit from the main plot of the series but I think it changed the game in some ways. How? We'll find out in Dead Lost coming soon.

I have written so many good reviews about this series, I would just be repeating myself if I try to tell you how great these books are. I even talk about this series when I rate other authors, because very few can compare to Tim's books. I am so sorry to have this series end. Tim don't make us wait too long for book eight. As SOON as I read that book I will start re-reading the entire series from the beginning.

Here is a question for other readers. How many times did you want to beat the hell out of Potter and Jack? I just kept saying, please don't do it!

Simple, perhaps overpriced, but I liked it a lot

Wonderfully refreshing look at pullups, dips, hanging leg raises, and related exercises. A great book if your motivation is lacking or lagging, or your current regimen has lost its luster. Kavadlo is a genial author, enjoyable and encouraging to read. He has a wonderful knack for keeping it all simple. The exercises, workouts and regimens in this book are all understandable and inviting. And they are, as the author writes, all you really need to do for your upper body. Also, as another reviewer has already pointed out, Kavadlo has other books but, unlike so many other strength and fitness authors (especially those published by Dragondoor), he isn't constantly plugging them. In fact, he doesn't even mention them, as far as I can recall. Four and a half stars.

Keep at it, Eugene!

To be vitally human there are a few authors one must read - Shakespeare, Plato, Rousseau, Alan Bloom and Eugene Hecht. With only limited exaggeration - notable among man's achievements is Hecht's new 4th edition of Optics. The first edition was the central (and only) text assigned in junior year optics for physics majors at many universities in the 1980's. As a near adolescent I was pleased by expert writing and well delivered humor in those far off years of college life.
The wonders of electromagnetics - which leads to everything in our modern age of electronics, radar, telescopes and computers - is beautifully clarified with clear pictures, concise description and completing examples in this new edition.
I hope Hecht lives to be a thousand such that the hundredth edition of Optics can enlighten people in the 31st century with as much joy and fascination as his 4th edition does today.
After so many years away I find Hecht there again to help me, not this time to peak inside the mind of nature but to make a living, and do so with added pleasure, knowing Hecht continues to improve the nearly perfect.

OK textbook, could have been better

I used this textbook for an introductory optics course. It was an average book. There weren't any examples in the core of the text, but fortunately the author did include worked solutions in the appendix for some of the end-of-chapter problems, which I used as examples to work from. Most of the questions that were answered were the easier ones, that anybody halfway intelligent should be able to figure out.

On the plus side, there were lots of equations and lots of description to help learn the material. Some sections were better than others. The sections on mirrors and lenses, for example, were wonderful; I never understood that stuff in high school, and Hecht made it all clear. The tables he had for the different types of lenses/mirrors and their properties were great. An example of a poor section was that on diffraction; I had no clue what he was talking about.

The book is a bit expensive, but overall it is alright; certainly better than some of the other books I used during my degree!

Catherine (Cat) married young and has never slept with anyone but her very boring and domineering husband. When she finds herself divorced at 29, she decides its time to let loose and make up for lost time, so she propositions a gorgeous green-eyed stranger named Jackson at a club for one night stand. The sex turns out to be so mind-blowing it motivates her to make a list of her 30 wildest sexual fantasies, all of which she is determined to experience in the next 30 days before she turns 30 years old.

The sexcapades that ensue are crazy! And hilarious! And super steamy!

After their one night stand, Cat and Jackson form a friendship and he is on board with helping her check off everything on her list, both as a wingman and as a partner. At first, Cat is having the time of her life, having several sexual encounters a day with all kinds of interesting partners, and feeling very carefree, but pretty soon her feelings for Jackson start to turn into more, and the reappearance of her ex becomes a big problem. And from there things get complicated...

This story had just the right balance of humor, sex, romance, and conflict. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to find out what was going to happen next. I can't wait to read more from this author!

Okay quick read. My first issue was the list. I really wanted to see a copy of it as soon as she made it. Definitely by the time she started checking things off of it. Secondly some of the scenes were really steamy, while others seemed perfunctory. It seemed as though there were two separate pieces, the erotica and the story. I don't know how to explain it, but somehow it didn't all mesh well for me. And I liked both parts, just it shouldn't have seemed like two separate parts. But overall an entertaining read.

It not only offers the source code from the book, but also the standalone executables that run the programs discussed. As AI behavior is such a dynamic phenomenon, it really lends itself to view the examples in motion alongside the text. That's why these programs are so helpful. Additionally, one can tell a lot of care was put into constructing these programs to really demonstrate the main point of each topic.

As an aside, chapter 2 of this book is an exceptional chapter for those interested in game engine design. It primarily deals with state-driven design and finite state machines, but also discusses game entities and their management along with message handling. While the topics in this chapter deal with AI behavior, their applications go far beyond AI and could easily be applied to many other features of games and software.

Great book, bad kindle translation

I purchased this book after reading the other reviews, and I was not disappointed.

It has GREAT content. Now the annoying part.

Obviously a robot without a spell checker OCR'd the book and make a kindle version, and then the author or amazon never proofed it. Every single page has words with numbers in place of letters and/or funky random spaces in the middle of words, words are even broken across line breaks.

Also NO browsable table of contents, chapters, or organization of any kind, so you would probably be better of with the paper edition if you are going to be referring back to the book.

Even 10 years later; still one of the best treatments of Game AI

Matthew Buckland's book was the second book on Game AI I had read (The first being Behavioral Mathematics). After reading it, I would say that that it is a major complement to his other book "AI Techniques for Game Programming". So anybody who thinks this book may simply be a rehash of the AI Techniques book is mistaken. This book will teach you about the basics of Game Programming and the mechanics that go into creating a Game AI Engine. I would recommend it as a great place to start learning about concepts in Game AI. I would also highly recommend reading "3D Math Primer for Graphics and Game Development" before reading this book though. Even though it's a graphics book, it's treatment on the dot product and other linear algebra concepts really helped me grasp the concepts presented in Buckland's book.
