Once upon a time...This was my thermo text when I took the class from the former director of flight test engineering at Edwards. He was a stickler for fundamentals and this was the text he chose. It covers all the fundamentals and is both comprehensible and thorough.
I had to buy a second one as the original one from class has a worn out binding.

Britain was changing in the 1960s.The early part of the decade is hard to distinguish from the post-war era in terms of attitudes and fashions, but gradually the culture of shortage and stoicism gave way to a strong desire to leave memories of the war and its consequences behind. The economy began to boom, and young people in particular wanted to enjoy themselves, rebelling against the restrictions of tradition, convention and class. As much as any pop star, the romance of the photographer and the princess epitomized a modern era when a commoner could marry into royalty. People took notice when the popular young couple took to the road in this unusual car. Before long Issigonis was being asked to give the queen a drive round Windsor Park and, as the decade progressed, a whole host of people who were famous for very different reasons became fans; the Beatles, Twiggy, Peter Sellers, Marianne Faithful, Christine Keeler – suddenly, it was the thing to have.

Bigger and better

Like the book it follows, this is a book of photographs with only a couple of pages of text. Many sequels do not carry the force of the original, but this one does. This expands the original volume's original scope of surveying the developing revolution in transportation as a grass-roots movement by including new additional projects and manufacturers that one can't but help find intriguing. It is less playful in covering bike culture and contains more studio manufacturers and fewer artists than the original. This is a hard-back. It is physically larger, being 9.5" x 11.25"; a 20% increase in size over the book it follows and has 15 more pages than-- Velo: Bicycle Culture and Design. It lists 135 manufactures in the index; 13 more than the book it follows. All of the makers show-cased are new; none of them are in the earlier book. On the down-side, neither book has a table of contents, probably because the material in this book is too new to fall into distinct groups. Yet it does have chapters: Preface, Boutique Shops, Connisseurs, Urban Bikes, Touring Bikes & Speed Bikes. Both books have an index of websites. It has very little text; the majority of text appears as captions. Many photographs, however, are outstanding and let you have experience without words. It is a photojournalist's diary of a World-wide movement not yet in sharp focus.

About the Author
Born in China’s northern Gansu Province, Professor Li Guoyu was educated at Lanzhou University and Beijing Petroleum Geology College. He has written close to 70 books and more than 30 scholarly papers on petroleum geology and has spent many years developing a theory of Sedimentary Basins that portrays an optimistic prognosis of oil and gas reserves in the world. Li Guoyu has combined his academic research with industry experience working with China’s largest petroleum company and the Chinese Ministry of Energy. He is an Honorary Academician with the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences. Li Guoyu is married with children and grandchildren and resides in Beijing.

A Fascinating Resource on the World's Oil Resources

This work is nothing short of a one-volume encyclopedia. It begins with basic geology and relevant map symbols, data on the history of oil production and use, a table of major oil-producing nations, numerous tables with statistics on oil production, and projections for the future.

There is world geologic map, as well as a map that shows the world's best-known petroleum basins. Even those of Antarctica are included, even though they are covered by ice and almost nothing is known about them. Oil and gas basins are classified according to symmetry (or lack of it), and type of trap or occurrence (anticline, reef, fracture, overthrust, stratigraphic, etc.).

Each of the major petroleum-bearing basins is elaborated in terms of nation or geographic region. The elaboration includes a colored cross-sectional diagram map showing geologic age, thickness, and cross-sectional distance. A series of descriptive paragraphs are provided for each basin, as is a table that gives basinal area, age, thickness, primary lithology, etc. An index in the gack of this single volume lists all of the basins, while another index lists all the nations considered.

Are we running out of petroleum? This book presents both views. One view is that most of the world's petroleum has already been found by the 1990's, and that critical shortages are not far in the future. The other view is that only a small percentage of available petroleum has been found, let alone exploited, thus far, and that significant petroleum exploitation is a likely reality for the next few centuries. (p. xvii).

Poland has proven oil reserves of 13 million tons of petroleum and proven gas reserves of 164 billion cubic meters. (p. 268). Although the latter is half that of Hungary (p. 261) and the UK (p. 257), it is comparable to the proven gas reserves of Germany (175 billion cubic meters: p. 257), and is significantly greater than that of many European nations.

Not even a good gossiper

I didn't expected a masterpiece in literature, nor a history book or a biographyp account, what I expected was a good gossip book, and I didn't even got that.
This book is very badly researched, fill with blatant guesses and and an alarming lack of basic fact chequing. The author continually confuses names and princesses, not only in the same chapter, but in the same paragraph!
