deserves much wider distribution

Every Christian who is interested in the relationship of his faith to the political realm needs to read this book, more than once. Rushdoony explains how America got in the situation we are now in. Even though it was first published in 1970, it is still quite relevant today, because the trends he saw then have only become more pronounced in the 21st century. Thought the book is solid, and filled with ideas and information, it is still quite readable (just give yourself time, because you will often stop and think about what Rushdoony just wrote).

Powerful, interesting and illuminating

This book is a real treasure. It is not about just politics but combines politics with philosophy, history, religion, economics, social order, law and justice, and other aspecst of man's life experience as influenced by his character. It recognizes man as a spiritual creature who seeks truth in order to gain an understanding and meaning for his life and compares the inevitable results of those choices based on which source of truth man choses to embrace. The book is well written and deep. Having red it once, I look forwad to reading it once again.

About the Author
Dennis Sheppard began his development career more than 20 years ago on an Apple IIe writing BASIC programs that printed “Hello!” an infinite number of times. It wasn’t quite love at first sight, but it was close enough. Several years later, after graduating from Louisiana Tech University with a computer science degree, Dennis got all professional with front-end development using ExtJS and .NET. Since then, he’s worked with a plethora of technologies, including a handful of JavaScript frameworks. He’s quite smitten with AngularJS and the roller coaster ride that is being a front-end developer. Dennis is a
Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer and has delivered enterprise solutions for the private equity, insurance, healthcare, education, and distribution industries. Dennis is now the Front-End Architect at NextTier Education in Chicago, and lives in the suburbs with his wife, two kiddos, and a golden retriever.

Christopher Miller is an Architect in West Monroe Partners’ Technology practice. He received a B.S. with Highest Distinction in computer and information technology from Purdue University and started full-time at West Monroe Partners shortly thereafter. Beginning his career in the private equity space, he helped transform his client’s aging applications into modern web applications with the help of newer UI technologies such as HTML5 and jQuery. He has moved on from investment management applications and is currently working on a Software-as-a-Service solution in the renewable energy space at West Monroe Partners. A Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer in Web Applications, his interests include multi-tenancy, RESTful API development, message-based architecture, Microsoft Azure, and of course, AngularJS and other front-end web technologies. AJ Liptak is a Senior Consultant at West Monroe Partners in the Technology practice, focusing on modern web applications. After earning his degree in computer information systems from Bradley University, he started at West Monroe Partners working in the banking, private equity, and distribution industries. Uneven quality and sloppy code samples

I'm glad this book exists to bridge the conceptual divide between angular and .net--there doesn't seem to be anything else filling this niche.

However, there's a lot of problems that make this book much less useful than it could have been, especially to someone who is new to Angular (the target audience, right?). Many of the code samples just really sloppy, and if your a newbie who's figuring things out but looking at the samples, it's really, really annoying to spend 10 minutes trying to understand what was meant by some strange (that maybe you don't understand!) thing in the sample code, only to later conclude after much googling that no, that's just a typo. It's also randomly assumes advanced knowledge of certain topics (like the meaning of $), and doesn't stick to the same conventions throughout the book (like not binding directly to scope in a controller, or using array syntax for dependency injection). It also gives very little practical guidance on the optimal way of setting up your dev environment end-to-end (for example, how do I use Gulp in Visual Studio? Am I really supposed to develop the front-end to my Web API app in plunkr?)

I thought it was really good. It succinctly puts together all of the major paradigms and styles of this type of programming. If you read John Papa's style guide, this pretty much follows all of those. I'm starting to use it at my new job as a Sr Software Developer.

A Book for Those Who Need Somewhat More Careful Explanations

I have been trading my own account for a while and got interested in trying to make a few options trades. I went looking for a book so that I could review the basics. I found one book which basically said, "Here is how these terms are defined, and here are some formulas which employ these terms and here are some examples." Well, that left me cold, because the author of that book made no attempt to make sure that I really understood the basic concepts. I "kind of" understood, but not really.

"All About Derivatives" by Michael Durbin is totally different. You can tell from the way he goes about explaining things that he really wants you to understand the basic concepts, and he doesn't want you to feel "dumb" just because he brings it down to a pretty basic level from time to time. What he's trying to do is make sure you don't get tripped up on important concepts at the early stages and he really does bend over backwards to clarify things to a very great degree. Whereas it was pointless to try to work my way through the first book, I read "All About Derivatives" pretty much from cover to cover and I think there were only a few places where I still got stuck. Still, that's a vast improvement over the other book and in fact it was only after reading Durbin's book that I was able to make sense of the first one.

Some people try too hard to impress you with how academic their approach is. Michael Durbin doesn't play that game. He really wants you to understand the concepts and I think that if he needed to do cartwheels to get the point across he would do it.

I wish this guy had written my calculus textbook when I took it in college; I wouldn't have had to take it over to improve my grade.

I hope Durbin makes enough money in the derivatives game to retire and write full time. He's quite a talent.

An Excellent Introduction to Derivatives

This is an extremely well-written introduction to derivatives. I used it as a supplement to a graduate course in Risk Management which had assigned Don Chase's classic book. I found this book to be much more readable, with less formal notation and fewer equations to wade through (not to mention being much cheaper and easier to carry around). Despite its small size, it still manages to convey the essential characteristics of the major types of derivatives (forwards, futures, swaps, options, and credit derivatives) and how they are priced, without getting bogged down in excessive theory. It's written in a pleasant, conversational style, with (horrors!) even a dash of humor thrown in. It contains the right amount of detail and math in the main text, with a series of appendices and nicely separated subsections for the more mathematically inclined. It's a great introductory text, and I strongly recommend it for anyone starting out in the subject.

The Book is OK, But Not That Great.

I picked up this book for two reasons. I wanted to learn what derivatives are, and I wanted to learn about the math around them. At first glance, in the bookstore, it looked like this book would meet my needs. Now, I have to say that this the first book I ever read about derivatives and have nothing to compare it against.

The first few chapters do a good job explaining what derivatives are and how they are used, though I found the chapter on swaps somewhat confusing despite reading that chapter twice. Additionally, I found the conversational nature of his writing, and the frequent drift into sidebar discussions, quite distracting. The chapters on pricing derivatives were worse.

In the pricing chapters I found the basic explanations ok, but there are a number of errors and typos that make those chapters confusing. The author also changes terminology occasionally and that is a little confusing. At one point I emailed the author in order to clear up my confusion, and he directed me to the errata list on his web site. I found I had to read the section on the Black-Scholes model backwards because the second half of that section gave me what I needed to understand the first half.

I found the explanation of the math most frustrating. The equations use symbols to mean something different than I would expect based on how those symbols are used in math and science texts. For example, he uses Greek delta to mean "amount of" instead of "change in." Now, perhaps this is the standard usage in the financial field, but that isn't explained very well. In many cases the author does not explain what the terms in the equations are, where their values come from, or what they are measuring. More explanation here would go a long way in helping the reader to understand the math better.

In summary, like my headline says, the book is ok, but not that great. Perhaps other books on the subject are very bad, but I would advise reviewing other texts for a bit before buying this one.

Rabbit internal Medicine: Must have for the rabbit Breeder

I recently purchased this book after a mysterious death of a weanling doe. This book is very informative and covers all areas of Rabbit disease and treatment. It was published in The United Kingdom so Americans will have to translate dosages from metric to U.S. measurements. I have found Section 4 which deals with infectious diseases especially helpful. It saved me a few trips to the vet just to get medication for a snuffles outbreak. From the data detailed in the book I was able to administer the proper amount of oxytetracycline to deal with the situation in the infected brood does. The book also includes fairly up to date research data on previously considered exotic conditions such as Encephalitozoon Cuniculi. Many medical books in the past exclusively used data compiled from laboratory animals. The publishers of "Rabbit Internal Medicine" have wisely chosen to include data collected from house rabbit associations as well as private breeders, and lab animals in an attempt to cover a much more realistic demographic. Many conditions such as the above mentioned E. Cuniculi rarely occur in lab animals, but are becoming known to be quite common in pet and show rabbits. This is a great book and a must have for the serious rabbit breeder or medical professional

This is not a book for a lay person with zero experience in medicine or rabbits - but it is a fantastic book for anyone seriously into rabbit medicine. Very thorough, detailed, and up to date. It is from the UK, so people across the pond will have to think about doses a second longer.

He was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 1998, founded a research center (Center for Communication and Information Sciences), and is the Editor in Chief of Semiotica. Danesi's work has been featured in the New York Times, Toronto Star, and Psychology Today, among other print publications, and he has been a guest on broadcast outlets such as National Public Radio.

The easiest entry book on semiotics

Marcel Danesi is an author on a mission, and that mission is convincing the world of the truly inspiring insights the science of signs - that is, semiotics - has to offer to anyone interested in the meaning of life. Indeed, his definition of semiotics as 'the science of interesting things' is perhaps the most accurate definition of semiotics ever made. Therefore, anyone interested in the meaning processes and meaning structures that define how we experience our everyday life and the world around us must read this book. Contrary to most books on semiotics being very hard to understand, this book introduces you to the main semiotic concepts by analyzing a young couple having dinner in a restaurant. Danesi peels of the meaning processes going on in this scene layer by layer, showing how not only the ongoing conversation between the couple, but equally fashion and make-up, kissing and touching, juwelry and perfumes, body language and wall decorations, ... all contribute to the meaningful experience of going out for dinner. And he does so in a truly engaging writing style, while avoiding the all too heavy jargon of the more advanced textbooks.

Wonderful and insightful intro

A very fine, very well-written book, ideal as an introductory text on semiotics. Danesi has the rare gift (for an academician, at any rate!) of being able to write clearly and engagingly on a wide range of potentially obscure subjects. His ability to connect apparently disparate topics persuasively (Cabbage Patch dolls and animism, e.g.) is an enormous plus. A must-read for anyone -- expert or beginner -- interested in semiotics or popular culture, this book is destined to be a classic, in this reader's opinion.

Outstanding, Nuanced and Lively Introduction to Semiotics, the Science of Signs

I may have read some twenty introductions to semiotics and this one stands out for various reasons: it is simple to read yet nicely contextualized in the setting of a gendered interaction, with lots of examples, anecdotes and stories that make it a very lively reading. It is deep as well as it deals with matters related to Cultural Anthropology and History, as much as Semiotics or the science of meaningful signs. I found this book very illuminating for undergraduate and graduate students alike, and use it regularly in my doctoral seminars. Warmly recommended.
