The author makes clear where archaeology has its roots and what Egyptology actually means.
He details the most frequent dating techniques and describes the transition from Paleolithic to Neolithic life... the unusual 'astronomical' site of Nabta Playa with discovered remains of domesticated cattle... the introduction of farming, followed by the unification of Egypt... up to the construction of the Step Pyramid Complex in the 3rd. Dynasty.
It is a very good account of a fascinating civilization.
