About the Author
LAURIE DAVID is devoted to stopping global warming. She founded the Stop Global Warming Virtual March and has produced several projects that aim to bring global warming to public attention, including the TBS Earth to America! comedy special, the HBO documentary Too Hot Not to Handle, and Al Gore's documentary, An Inconvenient Truth. She was voted Glamour's Woman of the Year for 2006. Laurie lives with her husband and their two daughters in Los Angeles, California.
Cambria is a former award-winning advertising copywriter. She has written articles for Boys Life, Parenting, and the Los Angeles Times magazine. Cambria speaks to children all over the country about reducing their carbon footprint. She sits on the Los Angeles Leadership Council of the Natural Resources Defense Council and lives with her husband and three children in Los Angeles.

inconveniate truth

This is a truely great chalenging and inspiring film. Al Gore and this film deserve all the awards and Nobel Prize they earned.

Incorrect Critical Charts

Readers should be aware that the the first editions of this book contain a chart (page 18 ) of the past 650,000 years that shows that CO2 emissions rose BEFORE global temperatures. In fact, the chart is reversed - CO2 emissions did rise, but only hundreds (in some cases thousands) of years AFTER temperature rises. For some reason the chart lines are backwards.
Scholastic is planning to issue a revised version with an updated chart, but there will be no revision to the text of the book, which references and explains the chart. I don't know that most kids will notice that the chart does not support the argument, but an important subject like this should be accurate in all details.
With such inaccuracies I do not recommend the book. Explain global warming to your children yourself - and be sure and use accurate information!

Hopeful and Empowering for Kids (and adults too!)

This book is fantastic! It discusses a potentially scary subject in an engaging and surprisingly optimistic way, informing kids while also giving them a feeling of hope and empowerment. The ideas in this book are presented in a clear and clever way. The authors even managed to bring a tone of lightheartedness to an undeniably heavy topic.
The importance of preserving our children's future is not political issue...it is a love issue. And whether you drive a Prius or a Hummer, there's no doubt that we all love our children. This book helps us open our eyes and our hearts to the many small (and not so small ways) we can each contribute to a cleaner, safer earth. And it allows our kids to be part of that healing.
There are so many things kids can do to help care for our world, and this book gives them the tools with which to do it. It also invites them into an age appropriate sense of responsibilty and ownership for the animals and nature that they adore. The book imparts practical, doable ways kids can contribute and lets them know that they (and their efforts) count!
